Victory

2180 miles ended with a monsoon on the mountain . The summit storm dropped an inch of water in one hour.  The thunder rolled but the lightening ruled. The sun finally broke thru and I was able to climb off the mountain safety, cold, wet ,tired and contented

Mile 1949

I hiked from 6 am till noon in pouring rain. Only managed 8 miles. Slick underfoot , many steep ups and downs. The sun came out.& I changed into dry clothes, wrung out my wet clothes &  laid them on a rock to dry in the sun while I had lunch.& After eating I slept til 2 p the trail & my clothes seemed dry enough so I hiked 5 more miles. Found a good tent spot just before the rain. I start tomorrow 235 miles to go

Maine

Last state . 1902 miles done , 282 left. today was the first day I needed to stow my trekking poles, climbs  required my full attention. Tomorrow's hike in mahoosuc notch is described by AWOL as Most difficult. or fun on the A.T. I met a north bounder who had dislocated his shoulder in the noch, came back down to gorham to heal. One of every 3 southbounders have some abrasion  to their legs , some scratches from thorns.  But mostly from rocks,
FUN!  FUN!  FUN!

Morgan stewart shelter

It is 6 pm I am the first to arrive at the shelter. the last 2 nights I spent with slow mosey , stripper ,sargent and weaver. I expect them to spend the night here we expect to rain and no 1 wants to carry wet gear

Doxycycline and lyme

The last few days are a blur.
Among  the side affects of doxycycline are difficulty with concentration and memory.
I begin a written  journal of when I took my medication. I see now I wrote June 7 for the last 3 days of journal entries.
I may only be able to hike 10 miles today but at least invented the 35 days months

perfect day

I'm struggling to maintain 1 mile an hour. I have had a cellulitis infection in my foot  for over a month now. first cycle antibiotics failed. I am in the first week of 3 week doxycyclene program in case it's lyme disease. so I just have to protect myself from the side affects and move slower. which means I will have more time to update my blog

Bear encounter number 2

Mile 1318 .the bear that just ran from me ,30 yards up the trail.
was twice as large as the one  I saw in the shenandoah . This bear  was moving very fast. I'm glad he was running away because there is no out running that.
